Image Deconstructed: Candice Swanepoel by Steven Meisel (Part One: The Shoot)

The year was 2011, the month was February, and it was South African model Candice Swanepoel’s time to break into high fashion. Steven Meisel‘s I Want Candy story put her on the cover of Vogue Italia, a move that would accumulate a massive amount of buzz online. Although the editorial was discussed for months, and some people seemed to take issue with some of the styling, the series can only be described as a classic. In this episode of Image Deconstructed you can follow fashion and beauty photographer Jason Setiawan, hair and makeup artist Abraham Sprinkle, model Gorby at RED Model Management, and myself as we emulate one of Meisel’s stunning shots in I Want Candy.

Our image was shot at f14 1/200 with a Nikon d800 with a mb-d12 grip and a Nikon AF-S MICRO NIKKOR 105mm 1:2.8 G ED lens.
